WHY WE USE
LITHIUM IRON PHOSPHATE

Lithium Iron Phosphate, or LiFePO4, batteries are one of the most durable and reliable energy sources on the market and a drastic improvement over lead-acid in safety, weight, capacity and shelf life.

BENEFITS:

Safety

Lithium Iron Phosphate is the safest lithium on the market. It will not explode or catch on fire. It is absent of potentially volatile chemicals that are found in other lithium cells.

Long Lifespan

Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries have up to 6,000+ life cycles without significantly decreasing performance. That means they last for years. By comparison, the average lifetime of lead-acid batteries is just two years.

High Efficiency

Lithium Iron Phosphate has 100% of its capacity available for use. It can be quickly charged and discharged again and again, reducing downtime and increasing efficiency. This makes it a great fit for a variety of applications.

No Active Maintenance

It does not require active maintenance to extend its service life. The batteries show no memory effects and can be stored for long periods of time because of the extremely low self-discharge rate (<3% per month).

Flexible Use

Because they emit no fumes or require little air flow, you can use them inside or outside. They can be stacked on top of each other or can be used in any position.

Peaks and Valleys Energy Use

Using Lithium Iron Phosphate for energy storage, we can optimize usages and help solve the peaks and valleys that occurs during high and low energy demand usages. This also can help to stabilize the grid from intense demand cycles by allowing you to use the stored energy when you need it.

Renewable Power

For the first time, green energy can be created and effectively stored and used as needed. You can harness the power of the sun and use it over and over again.

Lightweight and Portable

Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries are relatively small and light weight. Compared to lead-acid batteries, lithium provides great energy density at about half the mass and weight.

Energy Independence

Energy storage allows you to be independent of the grid so you can have energy where and when you want it. So no worries about black outs, brown outs, or when the grid goes down.

Questionable at best

The first time I used this was with the XP safari extension battery pack, the unit powered a fridge, mini fridge, and internet modem for about 24 hours. The gauge said it was around 50% battery power when it suddenly shut down and read 0% battery - recharge. The people at Lion energy said that was normal for first time use as the system reconfigures itself to accommodate the extension battery pack. So I plugged it in a wall outlet and charged it again as instructed. Second use went better but still not 100%. It shut down again after reading battery power around 30% (almost 48 hours of use). Plugged it in and charged again. Third use had the same effect as the first time but now there is a beeping noise as I am charging it for the fourth time. Sometimes the beeping gets very rapid like something is wrong. I called help desk again. They said they would replace it for free but didn't get my name or address or anything. Maybe they have my phone number on file? They said I would get a box with shipping instructions in a few days. One week later I still don't have anything but maybe it's just slow mail? Could be. Two other points I don't like about the Safari XP before I end this review. 1. The user manual is just a 3 to 4 page pamphlet that doesn't tell you much more than what is on their website 2. The unit clearly says made in China. I was told by the staff that only the batteries are made there and that they are working on getting that changed.

Mine was defective

Looks like a well-built product. Mine was defective and had to be sent back. Not sure why these aren't tested before they are sent out. I'll give an update when I get a new unit

Use at home and at work

I'm often needing some portable source of power around my home and also at work (I'm doing a bunch of trade shows and they always want to charge me for electrical at the booth). Most of the time I need to run my laptop, a large monitor (I use a 42" TV), a WiFi device, and some lights. At the shows I need to power lights, a 32" TV to show promo videos and a laptop and multiple cell phones. I've looked at several portable power options but most seemed to be "less portable" than I was expecting. I already have and use a smaller power bank from Lion that I really love (Eclipse) because I can fit it in my pocket, can take it on a plane and I don't have to carry a bunch of cords. Looking more closely at Lion's other solutions, I discovered the Safari (it also has an optional expansion battery but I decided to try the Safari only first). Here's my experience so far: PROS 1. I really like the looks - rugged and not prissy. 2. It has lots of different outlets so I can use lots of different types of devices - AC, USB-A and -C, and 12V (although I haven't used the 12V cig outlet yet). 3. It's got enough power to last me at a show for the entire day and it's portable enough I can recharge it using a nearby wall socket. 4. I love the digital display screen - it shows how much power I'm using and at that rate, how long it will last. It does the same when charging (I even used it once while charging and it worked like a charm. 5. I loved how fast it recharges from the wall outlet - it took only about 3 hours to fully recharge. I haven't used it with solar yet but will in the coming weeks. 6. And I love that it is silent and doesn't have any smells, unlike my little Honda 2000x (I'm still keeping it... mostly out of habit I guess. CONs I don't really have any cons so far. I guess one thing would be it occasionally has an internal fan that turns on for a moment, I think to keep it cool during use. It's not a big deal to me bc it's only so often and just for a min or so. Overall, I'm really pleased with the Safari. This company is really good to work with as I've called a couple times to the support and they were friendly and answered my questions. I liked that I could actually get ahold of someone live and I could understand them. I also like that Lion is a US company and not some foreign group that has an office here. That's not the same. I recommend the Safari (and the Eclipse as I mentioned earlier) and Lion in general. I give it a 4 star only bc I don't believe in 5 star (that means it's "perfect" to me and I don't know of any product that deserves that). Two thumbs up though.

Very good so far

It was easy to set up. It’s a nice look and feel. We bought it as a backup generator solution for a second home while we’re not there for power outages, to run just a small heat appliance. We haven’t had an outage yet so I can speak to how well it handles that primary function, but I like the design, how it can be inside and connects easily to solar panels. One glitch in ordering, the panels didn’t come with a 25’ cable, but Lion took care of that quickly. Their customer service has been very good so far - responsive and knowledgeable.

Thank you very much. We recommend testing it every 3-6 months to make sure that everything remains in working order. Have a great day!
