What are the Safari ME and XP?

The Safari ME and XP are the latest in Lithium battery technology for portable power needs. They replace traditional noisy gas generators with the safest Lithium batteries on the market today. They are light weight for the amount of power and stored energy they have. Think of it as a safe, silent, renewable generator and extra energy storage without the need for gas, pollution or all that weight.

What does the Safari ME power?

You can use it to power a wide variety of devices like cell phones, laptops, tablets refrigerators, freezers, TVs, lights, hot plates or grills, power tools, and the list goes on. Virtually any device you can plug into a standard wall outlet, the Safari ME can power it. And with the optional ME-XP expansion battery, you can power all that for longer.

How can you figure out how long the Safari ME and XP will power specific devices?

The ME has a continuous 2,000W of power output (watts of power output) and over 900Wh (922 watt hours) of stored energy. The ME-XP adds nearly another 2,050Wh more when connected to the ME. That means you can power devices that require up to 2000W of power for various periods of time. To calculate how long the ME can power a device, use this formula: Wh / W = Estimated Run Time. For example, if the device requires 50W of power and the ME has 922Wh then the device can be powered for approximately 18.5 hours (922 / 50 = 18.44) If you use that same device but now with the XP connected to the ME, you'll have 2,970Wh to use in this formula (2,970 / 50 = 59.4).

How long can the Safari ME and XP hold a charge?

They will maintain their charge for up to a year (ME) or two (ME-XP) without having to charge them. This is known as shelf life or storage life. They will lose about 2-3% charge on average each month (more in the first month and less in subsequent months), assuming the unit is fully charge to begin with. However, we recommend using the ME and XP frequently, in the house, outside, on adventures and for emergencies.

Can the Safari ME and XP power an A/C unit?

The Safari ME outputs 2,000W and can power some AC units depending upon the brand and the watts each AC unit requires. Like with most devices, the power consumption varies from brand to brand and model to model. So you'll need to determine if the AC unit is less than 2,000W.Check out our videos tab for a detailed review on the ME. Remember, if you connect the XP to the ME then you get an extra 2,048Wh of stored energy to power things longer.

How can I connect the Safari ME and XP to my house?

You would need a home integration kit, which is generally found at home improvement/electrical supply/hardware stores.

Can the Safari ME and XP be used to store solar power or solar energy?

The Safari ME and XP are a great energy storage combo unit for solar power from solar panels. Together they can store 2,970Wh (watt hrs) of energy.

Lion ME & XP

I needed a unit I could take around the property for portable power, electric jack hammer, radio, other corded tools etc. so I wouldn't need to string 100' extension cords.This fits the bill just fine. I made a cart for it which makes moving it easier. The only things that could be improved: where the 120v AC plug rests, it doesn't sit neatly in its designated place so the back of the unit is flush. That is nitpicky, I know, but, to be objective. Another "negative" is Lion's use of 24volt solar panels. This may be a negative for only me, because I have a bunch of 12 volt panels. I'll just put two of them in series. Not really a negative, but buyer be aware: Lion uses the 30a Anderson plug for their solar charging input. I believe the general public - ones not also buying Lion's 24 volt solar panels, would be better served with an MC4 input. MC4 connectors are on the majority of panels in the market. If you plan to use panels other than Lion's, you'll need to make an adapter plug. Also pretty nitpicky, huh? Otherwise, I could find no negatives. I also bought two of the XPs. There is a similar cord issue with them also-difficult to wind the cord into their provided space in the back (again nitpicky), but otherwise; well packaged, received (I am in Utah) within 3 days of ordering, and they look perfect. Have only, so far, used to power a portable XM radio on the property and used a 1000w heater in the shop, just to test it out. Worked well, barely lowered the state of charge after 30 minutes of use. Many of these equally sized units by other manufacturers are not LiPo4 powered and have significantly less charge cycles that the ME. Stay away from the Lithium-Ion (polymer) and the NMC batteries. LiPo4 have twice the charge/discharge (life expectancy) cycles. Double what your expected needs are and you should be happy. Also if you're looking to purchase a unit like this, look for one that is upgradeable; you can buy extra batteries, like the XP.One final note, the XP can be plugged into the ME when the ME goes dry, and the ME can continue to be used. I just wish the XP could be charged independently, but that would require a charge controller in the XP unit, and raise costs. Good unit and Lion's tech support responds quickly with the right answers..

Loads of generator power

I initially purchased the Safari ME+ XP as a power back up for household as you never know when the power grid will fail. I also needed something for my wife's medical equipment like her CPAP & Oxygen concentrator. This works very well for both. I love that you can use the Safari ME+XP at same time you recharge the unit with the 6 solar panels. This way when done it stays charged. Very happy with this that I purchased an additional "XP" for extra power if and when and where needed. The only thing I would reccomend to the manufacturer as an improvement would be to provide a way that these XP Units could be stacked with a plug style so the total wattage could also be displayed. It's no big deal as they are now just have to switch one for another full lowered one is all. Other than that minor discomfort, a very user friendly, well organized, well thought through power generator without having to use gas or any fuels. Lion Energy made me a customer for life Thank you Lion Energy for an outstanding product!!!
